Dental Stem Cells

The Brandywine Smile Center is pleased to provide Store-A-Tooth collection  services for our patients.

Why preserve dental stem cells?

Doctors have already used dental stem cells to successfully regenerate dental bone and treat periodontal disease, and researchers are studying how they could help treat a number of serious diseases and conditions:

Store-A-Tooth is a service that collects and preserves your stem cells for future potential needs.

You’ve probably heard of umbilical cord blood banking. Many families have decided to save their child’s cord blood stem cells for future needs. Did you know that stem cells can be collected from teeth? Similar to stem cells from bone marrow and umbilical cord blood, which have been used for decades to treat leukemia and other blood related diseases, stem cells from teeth have the potential to be used in a broad range of medical applications.

Stem cells found in baby teeth and wisdom teeth are being studied for their potential to treat serious diseases or conditions, including:

Diabetes

Spinal cord injury

Muscular dystrophy

Parkinson’s disease

Alzheimer’s

Cardiac muscle damage

Stroke

Tooth loss and gum disease

At the Brandywine Smile Center we can help our patients submit dental tissues for stem cell banking.

If you or a family member are losing baby teeth or having any teeth surgically removed, we invite you to learn more about the benefits of Store-A-Tooth.

We encourage our patients to consider if preserving stem cells is appropriate for them.

The Process:

Prior to the collection appointment we will freeze and prepare a specially designed transport kit for the tissue sample to be sent to the laboratory.  The collection kit and shipping is a flat fee of $50.00 payable to the Brandywine Smile Center. Fees for the actual growth and storage of the cells will be paid directly to Store-A-tooth and Provia labs.  Fees will vary based on the level of service – learn more at store-a-tooth.com
